🎬 Part 2: “The Stolen Past”

“…Elena?”

The name shattered Arthur.

“No.”

The word escaped him before he could stop it.

Everyone heard it.

Everyone turned.

The runaway girl’s eyes never left Leo.

Tears spilled down her cheeks.

“You remember.”

Leo gripped the arms of his wheelchair.

Suddenly, another memory crashed through him.

Not rain.

Not the greenhouse.

A black SUV.

Men shouting.

Elena screaming his name.

Arthur pulling him away.

“Don’t look.”

Leo’s breath caught.

His head snapped toward his guardian.

“You told me she died.”

The room froze.

Arthur’s face went pale.

“Leo—”

“You told me she died.”

His voice cracked louder this time.

The jazz quartet had stopped completely.

Every donor stood motionless.

Elena reached into her jacket and pulled out a small silver bracelet.

Bent.

Scratched.

Old.

Leo recognized it instantly.

He had given it to her when they were children.

The night before she disappeared.

His hands began to shake.

“Elena…”

She nodded through tears.

“I looked for you.”

Arthur took a step backward.

One.

Then another.

A museum trustee near the entrance suddenly frowned.

Because he recognized the bracelet too.

It had appeared in an old police report.

A report that had vanished years ago.

The trustee slowly looked at Arthur.

“What exactly happened to that girl?”

Arthur said nothing.

And that silence told everyone everything.

Leo’s breathing became ragged.

His eyes locked on Elena.

Then something else happened.

He pushed down on the armrests.

Hard.

The wheelchair rolled backward.

Leo stood.

Not perfectly.

Not steadily.

But he stood.

Gasps exploded through the atrium.

Champagne glasses slipped from trembling hands.

Arthur stared in horror.

The boy he had controlled for years was standing on his own.

Walking away from him.

One shaky step.

Then another.

Toward Elena.

Toward the truth.

Toward the life that had been stolen from both of them.

When he finally reached her, Elena burst into tears.

Leo wrapped his arms around her.

The crowd watched in stunned silence.

Two lost children.

Finally found.

Then Leo looked over Elena’s shoulder at Arthur.

For the first time in years, there was no fear in his eyes.

Only certainty.

“You didn’t save me.”

Arthur’s face collapsed.

Leo held Elena’s hand tighter.

“You took her away.”

And in that glittering museum filled with priceless art, the most valuable thing anyone witnessed that night was not a sculpture.

It was the moment a stolen past finally came home.
