My husband is “working late at the office” but his DoorDash account just ordered dinner for two at a Hilton

“I don’t have a choice.”

Emily whispered:

“Daniel, you absolutely have a choice.”

I stepped backward.

My mind was screaming at me to leave.

But my feet wouldn’t move.

Then I heard my name.

“She deserves to know, Sarah.”

My heart stopped.

They were talking about me.

I raised my hand toward the door.

I was going to knock.

I was going to open it.

I was going to end this.

Then Emily said:

“If she finds out from someone else, she’ll never forgive you.”

Daniel’s voice cracked.

“I know.”

I stared at the number on the door.

All those nights.

All those lies.

All those times I’d sat at home believing he was working.

I had come here expecting to find my husband with another woman.

Instead, I was standing outside a hotel room where two people were discussing a secret about me.

And suddenly, I wasn’t sure what scared me more.

The possibility that Daniel was cheating…

or the possibility that there was something much bigger he had been hiding.

I knocked.

The voices stopped.

Three seconds later, the lock clicked.

The door opened.

Daniel stood there.

His face went completely white.

Behind him was Emily.

She was holding a folder.

Not a dress.

Not a glass of wine.

A folder.

She looked at me and whispered:

“Sarah…”

I looked at Daniel.

“What is this?”

He didn’t answer.

I stepped inside.

And then I saw what was on the table.

Photographs.

Bank statements.

Emails.

And one document with my name printed across the top.

I picked it up.

The first sentence made my hands go numb.

NOTICE OF LIABILITY — INCIDENT INVOLVING SARAH MORGAN.

I looked at my husband.

“What is this?”

Daniel closed his eyes.

And for the first time that night, he stopped lying.
