PART 2: One Phone Call Changed Everything: “Hello, Daughter.”

Maya stumbled.

Luca caught her.

For one strange second, his hand steadied her the way it had in the restaurant—not gentle, not tender, but certain.

She looked at him. “Did you know about the blood?”

“No.”

The answer came too fast to be a lie.

Maya nodded once and kept moving.

At the bottom, a steel door opened into an old chapel hidden beneath the building. Candles burned along the walls though no one had lit them recently. Statues watched from alcoves, their faces worn smooth by age.

Elena froze at the threshold.

“No,” she whispered.

Luca looked around. “What is this?”

Matteo began to laugh.

Enzo shoved him forward. “Quiet.”

But Matteo only laughed harder. “You brought her to the door.”

Maya turned.

At the center of the chapel floor was a black circle crossed by a silver line.

The same mark branded into Matteo’s chest.

Then the stone beneath Maya’s feet warmed.

A thin red line of light spread from the circle and traveled toward her shoes like a vein waking under skin.

Elena screamed, “Maya, move!”

But Maya could not.

The floor opened.

Not falling open. Unlocking.

A round section of stone split apart, revealing a staircase descending into blue darkness.

Luca stared at Elena. “What did you build?”

Elena’s face was wet with tears. “A tomb.”

From below came a sound like machinery breathing after years of sleep.

Then a woman’s voice rose from the darkness.

Not Elena’s.

Not any voice Maya knew.

“Blood confirmed,” it said.

Maya’s heart stopped.

The voice continued, calm and mechanical.

“Welcome, heir of Vale. Welcome, heir of Moretti.”

Luca went still.

Maya turned to him slowly.

His face had lost all color.

Elena covered her mouth, and in her eyes Maya saw the final lie breaking.

Maya whispered, “Heir of Moretti?”

Behind them, Matteo smiled through blood.

And from the darkness below, Adrian Vale’s voice echoed softly:

“Hello, daughter. Hello, Luca. Shall we tell her who her real father is?”
