“The hospital administrators are discussing a voluntary discharge.”
Claire stared at her.
“I never agreed to leave.”
“They may claim that you did.”
Ethan stood.
“Where are the security recordings?”
“The hallway cameras feed into a control room downstairs. But Mr. Holloway’s office has already requested that all footage be held for internal review.”
“Meaning deleted.”
The nurse looked toward the door.
“I copied the corridor footage before they locked the system.”
She removed a small flash drive from her pocket.
Ethan stared at it.
“Why would you risk your job?”
“Because I watched a bleeding pregnant woman beg for help while the man who hurt her reminded everyone how much money he had donated.”
She handed him the drive.
“My name is Rachel Kim. I am willing to testify.”
At 4:18 a.m., Lucas arrived.
He walked into the room wearing a dark suit, carrying a leather briefcase, and looking as calm as a man entering a courtroom.
Then he saw Claire.
The calm vanished from his eyes.
He kissed her forehead.
“Tell me everything.”
Claire did.
She told him about the affair, the financial restrictions, the threats, and the months Grant had spent telling her she was irrational. She admitted that he had removed her name from several joint accounts and pressured her to quit her interior design business after she became pregnant.
Lucas listened without interruption.
When she finished, he turned to Ethan.
“Did you hit him?”
“No.”
“Good.”
“I came close.”
“Stay close. Don’t cross the line. Grant wants you angry because an angry brother is easier to arrest than a billionaire husband.”
Lucas inserted the flash drive into his laptop.
The footage had no clear view inside the room, but the audio was devastating. Grant’s raised voice could be heard. Then came the metallic crash, Claire’s scream, the monitor alarm, and Grant’s final statement.
You brought this on yourself.
Lucas replayed it twice.
“That sentence is an admission of intent,” he said.
Claire looked frightened. “What happens now?”
Lucas opened a new document.
“Now we preserve every medical record, every video, every witness statement, and every financial transaction connected to your marriage.”
“He’ll destroy the evidence.”
“Then we make enough copies that he cannot find them all.”
Ethan looked toward the window. News vans had begun gathering outside.
“How did the press hear?”
Lucas did not answer immediately.
He turned his laptop toward them.
A local investigative reporter had already posted a breaking story:
BILLIONAIRE DEVELOPER ACCUSED OF INJURING PREGNANT WIFE AT HOSPITAL HE FUNDS.
Claire covered her mouth.
“It’s public?”
Lucas nodded.
“And this is only the beginning.”
Across the city, Grant sat in the back of his Mercedes while his phone filled with alerts. His name was trending. Investors were demanding answers. Reporters had found photographs of Madison.
Grant called his publicist.
“Say Claire had a breakdown.”
“Grant, there appears to be video.”
“There is no video.”
“There is audio.”
“Then call it manipulated.”
Madison sat beside him, scrolling through thousands of messages accusing her of helping abuse a pregnant woman.
“People know who I am,” she whispered.
Grant ignored her.
“I want a press conference by noon. I’m the concerned husband. Claire is suffering from prenatal psychosis. Find a doctor willing to say it.”
His chauffeur watched Grant through the rearview mirror.
The car’s internal security system recorded every word.
And for the first time in five years, the chauffeur saved a copy.
PART 3 — THE TRUTH ESCAPED THE HOSPITAL
By eight that morning, Grant Holloway’s crisis team had occupied a private conference room on the hospital’s executive floor.
Attorneys, publicists, administrators, and two members of the hospital board sat around a polished table beneath a framed photograph of Grant cutting the ribbon at the maternity wing’s opening ceremony.
