PART 2: I ARRIVED LATE, MUDDY, AND MOCKED FOR MY DREAM JOB

That failure spread.

Cassandra Crane and Martin Vale used my hesitation to entrench themselves. I signed authority I should not have signed. By the time I understood the scale, my health was failing and my access was limited.

If Grayson reads this: son, distrust any empire that asks you to preserve it at the expense of a single honest person.

And if Nora Bellamy reads this: your father was not disloyal. He was brave. I am sorry I let the company survive him without clearing his name.

My vision blurred.

For seven years, I had wanted someone powerful to say my father had not done what they claimed.

Now the words were there.

Too late for him.

Not too late for truth.

Beneath the note was a ledger.

Priya opened it first.

Her face changed as she scanned the columns.

“Names,” she said. “Payments. Approvals. Internal codes.”

Grayson leaned over.

Then he froze.

“What?” I asked.

He pointed to one line.

Meridian House Beneficiary Override — Approved: M. Vale / C. Crane
Secondary Authorization: G.P.

My eyes moved to Grayson.

He shook his head slowly. “I didn’t authorize this.”

Priya’s voice was grim. “Initials can be forged.”

“No,” Grayson said.

He turned another page.

Then another.

His initials appeared again and again.

Different dates.

Different transfers.

Some from years before he became CEO.

Some from when he was overseas.

Some from the month after his father’s stroke.

A pattern built in front of us like a trap.

“They used my identity,” he said.

Elise covered her mouth.

Priya’s eyes narrowed. “Not just to move money. To make sure that if this surfaced, it implicated you.”

Grayson stared at the ledger.

For the first time, the billionaire CEO looked less like the man whose name was on the tower and more like a son standing in the ruins of his father’s unfinished confession.

Then my phone buzzed.

I looked down.

Unknown number.

A message appeared.

You should have left when Crane told you to.

Attached was a photograph.

Not of me.

Not of my apartment.

Of Leo, the little boy from the drainage ditch, sitting in a hospital bed with his sister beside him.

My blood went cold.

A second message arrived immediately.

Ask Grayson why the boy’s last name is Vale.

Priya sucked in a breath.

Grayson took the phone from my trembling hand and stared at the image.

“Vale,” he whispered.

Martin Vale.

The CFO.

Elise’s face went white. “Mr. Pierce…”

But before she could finish, the archive room door opened.
