PART 2 – She Canceled One Credit Card, Then Uncovered the Lie Her Ex-Husband Built Their Entire Marriage On – 6!001

“Grace,” I said, “was any scholarship money ever given out?”

Another pause.

“One award,” she said. “Two thousand dollars. Three years ago.”

I covered my mouth.

Three point eight million dollars.

One two-thousand-dollar scholarship.

“Who received it?”

“A student named Elena Morales.”

The name meant nothing to me, and somehow that made it worse. Somewhere there was a young woman whose name had been used to make a hollow charity look alive.

“I want to know who she is,” I said.

“I expected you would.”

Before I could answer, an officer stepped into the kitchen. He was middle-aged, calm, with kind eyes and a notebook in hand.

“Ms. Vale?” he said. “We’ll need a statement from you when you’re ready.”

“I’ll be there in a minute.”

He nodded and glanced toward the ruined lock. “Your building management is sending security to repair the door. We’ll remain until it’s secured.”

“Thank you.”

When he left, Grace lowered her voice. “Olivia, listen to me carefully. Brandon will likely try to frame this as a messy divorce and family misunderstanding. He may claim you authorized payments. He may claim the foundation was Margaret’s project and he was only helping. Do not argue with him.”

“I won’t.”

“I mean it. No hallway confrontation. No dramatic reveal. Evidence first.”

Despite everything, a faint smile touched my mouth. “You know me too well.”

“I know you built a career by walking calmly through rooms full of men who underestimated you,” Grace said. “Do that now.”

After we ended the call, I stood alone for a moment, breathing through the ache in my chest.

I had expected freedom after the divorce.

I had not expected excavation.

When I returned to the foyer, Brandon rose quickly. “Olivia. Finally. Tell them this has been blown out of proportion.”

Margaret looked relieved, as though I had arrived to correct an inconvenience.

“This is a private matter,” she told the officer. “My son was concerned for his former wife’s well-being.”
