Part 2: Vote No One Expected

The Vote No One Expected

For the first time that night, the older woman looked afraid.

Not angry.

Not offended.

Afraid.

The terrace doors opened behind her.

One by one, members of the board stepped outside.

Their phones were still in their hands.

Their expressions had changed.

The lawyer walked to the younger woman and stopped beside her.

“Ma’am,” he said quietly, “the emergency vote has already been called.”

The older woman’s face went white.

“You can’t do that.”

“We already did.”

A murmur spread through the guests.

The younger woman never looked away from her.

Years of humiliation.

Years of silence.

Years of protecting the little boy from cruelty disguised as power.

All of it had finally reached its end.

The lawyer turned toward the child.

Then, to everyone’s surprise, he crouched down and picked up the toy car that had fallen from the boy’s hand.

He dusted it off carefully and returned it to him.

“You dropped this, young man.”

The boy smiled for the first time all night.

A small smile.

But somehow it changed the entire terrace.

The older woman stared as the board members walked past her without stopping.

Without apologizing.

Without asking permission.

Power was leaving her.

And everyone could see it.

The younger woman wrapped an arm around the child and started toward the exit.

Behind her, the lawyer’s voice echoed across the silent rooftop.

“The board has voted unanimously.”

The older woman closed her eyes.

“The chairwoman has been removed effective immediately.”

The city lights glittered beyond the glass railing.

And for the first time in years, the younger woman and the little boy walked away without looking back.
