PART 2 – He Was Refused a Room at His Own Hotel—Then One Forgotten Name Changed Everything

“Still inside.”

“Don’t let him leave.”

Daniel looked past me toward the break room door. “There’s another problem.”

I waited.

“The welcome card in your suite said Evans because someone changed your arrival profile yesterday afternoon. Not deleted. Masked.”

“By whom?”

Daniel hesitated.

“That’s what I don’t understand. The change wasn’t made from Caldwell’s office.”

“Where?”

He handed me a second page.

The access location was printed at the bottom.

Suite 904.

My suite.

Before I could speak, the elevator at the end of the corridor chimed. A woman stepped out carrying a sealed cream envelope. She wore a plain navy coat, no hotel uniform, and her eyes went straight to mine as if she had known exactly where to find me.

“Mr. Vance?” she asked.

“Yes.”

She held out the envelope.

“I was asked to deliver this only after you saw the name Sarah Vance in the records.”

My breath stopped.

Daniel moved closer. “Who asked you?”

The woman looked toward the break room door, then back at me.

“Your wife did.”

Inside the envelope, written in Sarah’s handwriting, were five words:

Ethan, don’t trust the roses.
